Retina conditions

Diabetic retinopathy is when high blood sugar levels cause damage to blood vessels in the retina. The blood vessels can swell and leak or close, stopping blood from passing through, or abnormal new blood vessels grow on the retina, which can affect vision. The retina is the tissue sensitive to the light and is located in the back part of the eye.

Symptoms are:

Many diabetic patients don’t experience any of these symptoms until they begin suffering from bleeding in the eye. It is very important that all diabetic patients undergo regular eye exams and get treatment for diabetic retinopathy in order to protect their vision by maintaining a healthy retina.

Pterygium

Pterygium is a growth of pink fleshy tissue on the conjunctiva, the clear tissue that lines the eyelids and covers the eye. It usually forms on the side closest to your nose and grows toward the pupil area.

Symptoms are:

The real cause of pterygium is unknown although some associated factors have been identified, such as sun exposure, wind and other irritation sources. Pterygium can be treated superficially with medicines but a comprehensive treatment includes a surgical procedure that consists in removing the tissue by replacing it with an insert in the affected area.
